名人名言有哪些?(西游记第二回名人名言有哪些?) Hi, I'm Shuenam. 听VOA,探索美式英语中的常见表达吧①(边听音频边看以下文字噢)“敲木头”祝好运Now, the VOA Learning English program Words and Their Stories.现在为您播报的是American之音慢速英语,词汇掌故。Each week on this program, we talk about common words and expressions in the English language.每周在这个节目中,我们都会讨论英语中的常用词汇和表达。Today, we tell about the word "knock." To help explain expressions using "knock," you will hear scripted dialogues. We will also use songs. We really want to knock your socks off!今天,我们来讲一下knock 这个单词。为了帮助有关“knock”的表达,你将听到脚本对话。我们还将使用歌曲。我们真的很想让你大吃一惊!In other words, we want to have such an effect on you that your socks fly off your feet! So to speak.换句话说,我们希望会对你产生很大的影响,我们想让你的袜子飞离你的脚!可以这么说。Another expression with a similar meaning is "Knock 'em dead!"另一个意思相似的表达是“Knock 'em dead!”(让他们印象深刻)Usually, we say this to close friends or family members when we want them to do a really great job at something. It is an easy-going, informal way to give someone motivation.通常,我们会对亲密的朋友或家人说这句话,当我们希望他们把某件事做得很好。这是一种轻松、非正式的激励某人的方式。So, if a friend has a very important meeting, you can say to her,"Don't worry. You will knock'em dead!" In other words, you are going to impress them so much that they will fall over dead! Not actually, of course.所以,如果一个朋友有一个非常重要的会议,你可以对她说,“别担心。你会让他们大吃一惊的!”换句话说,你会让他们印象深刻到他们会倒地而死!当然这不是真的。The "em" in this expression is short for the word "them." But when saying this expression,we don't say "them." We say the informal, shortened form of the word- pronounced 'em. And we say it quickly blending the words together: Knock 'em dead.这个表达中的“em”是单词“they”的缩写。但是当我们说这个短语的时候,我们不会说“他们”。我们说的是非正式的缩写形式-发音'em。我们说它的时候很快地混合了单词:Knock 'em dead。Now, as a verb, "knock" has many meanings. The most common is to simply knock on something, or hit it, with your fist. For example, you knock on a door when you want to enter someone's house. That you probably know. But did you know that when you want good luck, you should knock on wood?作为动词,knock 有很多意思。最常见的就是用拳头敲东西。例如,当你想进入某人的房子时,你要敲门。你可能知道。但是你知道吗,当你想要好运时,你应该敲木头?Knock on wood is something we either do or say (or both) to bring good luck.敲木头是我们用来做或说(或两者同时)来带来好运的事。This custom may come from ancient times when people believed that gods existed in nature. So, for example, knocking on a tree was thought to bring good luck. Even if they don't believe it to be true, many Americans say "Knock on wood!" to mean "Wish me good luck!"这个习俗可能来自古代,那时人们相信神存在于自然界。所以,例如,敲一棵树被认为会带来好运。许多美国人即使不相信这是真的,也会说“Knock on wood”,意思是“祝我好运”。Now, another way we use "knock" as a verb is to combine it with the word "around."现在,我们把“knock”用作动词的另一种方式是把它和“around”这个词结合起来。To knock around is to walk around without a clear purpose. So, you can knock around your neighborhood, a ball field or city streets. One day on a visit to New York City, I knocked  around Central Park for a good two hours! And it was not a waste of time. So, don't knock me for spending so much time knocking around!闲逛是指漫无目的的闲逛。所以,你可以在你的社区、球场或城市街道闲逛。有一天我去纽约游玩,在中央公园逛了两个小时。这并不是浪费时间。所以,别怪我花那么多时间到处闲逛!And this brings us to yet another meaning of the word "knock."这就给我们带来了knock 这个词的另一种含义。It also means to criticize. If you knock something you find fault with it. So, if someone criticizes your career choice, you can say, "Why are you knocking my job? It's my business what I do. Not yours."它也有批评的意思。如果你敲打某物,你就会挑它的毛病。所以,如果有人批评你的职业选择,你可以说,“Why are you knock my job?”我做什么是我的事。与你无关。”We use this meaning of "knock" in another informal expression: Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. This means you should not criticize something you have not tried.我们在另一种非正式表达中使用“Don't knock it ' until you've tried it.”(没试过就别敲门)。这句话的意思是你不应该批评你没有尝试过的事情。Another common expression is to simply tell someone to "knock it off!" This is a forceful and somewhat childish way to say "Stop it!"另一个常见的表达方式是简单地告诉某人“别闹了!”这是一种强有力的、有点孩子气的方式来表达“住手!”There is another "knock" expression that we use only in special situations. So, let's say somebody wants to do something and you really don't care if they do it or if they don't. In that case, you could say, "Knock yourself out."还有一个只在特殊情况下使用的“knock”表达。所以,假设某人想做某事,而你真的不在乎他们是否做了。在这种情况下,你可以说,“请自便”。Let's hear it used in these two short dialogues.让我们来听一下这两个简短的对话。Wow, your sandwich looks good.哇,你的三明治看起来不错。It is good. But I'm full.它很好吃。但是我饱了。Can I finish the rest?我能把剩下的吃完吗?Knock yourself out.你随意。Hey, are you going to be home this weekend?嘿,这周末你回家吗?Yes. Why do you ask?是的。你为什么这么问?Well, I want to throw a party. Since you're my roommate, I'd thought I'd check with you first.我想办个派对。既然你是我的室友,我想我应该先和你商量一下。I don't care.我不在乎。Are you sure? It might be loud.你确定吗?可能会很吵。Knock yourself out!你随意!On the Formal/Informal Scale – if we were to have one -- this term would rate as very informal. So, only use it with your good friends and not your employer, your friend's grandparents or a university professor.在正式/非正式的范围内——如果我们有一个的话——这个词将是非常不正式的。所以,只对你的好朋友使用,而不是对你的老板、朋友的祖父母或大学教授。Speaking of university, some people go there to learn. While others learn from experience. And difficult experiences can be the best teacher. In a way, they are a lot like school. And we call that school the school of hard knocks.说到大学,有些人去那里是为了学习。而其他人则从经验中学习。艰难的经历可能是最好的老师。在某种程度上,它们很像学校。我们称这所学校为“the school of hard knocks(艰苦生活的学校)”。In the school of hard knocks, you learn something as a result of difficult or unpleasant experiences. The term "hard knocks" means the situations in life that try to knock you down, but you won't give up.在“磨难学校”中,你从困难或不愉快的经历中学到一些东西。“重重打击”指的是生活中那些试图击垮你,但你不会放弃的情况。And that brings us to the end of this Words and Their Stories.以上就是本期词汇掌故节目的全部内容。Until next time ... I'm Anna Matteo.下次节目再见。我是安娜·马特奥。总结:knock your socks off 让你大吃一惊your socks fly off your feet 希望会对你产生很大的影响,我们想让你的袜子飞离你的脚。Knock 'em dead 让他们印象深刻knock on wood 敲木头是我们用来做或说(或两者同时)来带来好运的事。To knock around 漫无目的的闲逛knock something you find fault with it 你敲打某物,你就会挑它的毛病Why are you knock my job?” “我做什么是我的事。与你无关。”Don't knock it ' until you've tried it.” 没试过就别敲门:你不应该批评你没有尝试过的事情。knock it off 强有力的、有点孩子气的方式来表达“住手!”the school of hard knocks 艰苦生活的学校②(边听音频边看以下文字噢)名人名言有什么呢Now, the VOA Learning English program Words and Their Stories.现在为您播报的是VOA 词汇掌故。On today's program, we talk about popular sayings, called proverbs. Many you will hear to day come from a very famous person in American history -- Benjamin Franklin.在今天的节目中,我们谈论一些流行的说法,叫做谚语。今天你们会听到很多来自美国历史上非常有名的人——本杰明·富兰克林。Now, here is Barbara Klein reading a story written by Shelley Gollust.现在由芭芭拉·克莱恩看雪莱·戈勒斯特撰写的故事。Today we talk about proverbs. A proverb is a short, well known saying that expresses a common truth or belief. Proverbs are found in most cultures and are often very old.今天我们来谈谈谚语。谚语是一种简短的众所周知的说法,表达一种普遍的真理或信仰。谚语在大多数文化中都有,而且往往很古老。In American history, Benjamin Franklin was famous for his proverbs. Franklin lived in the

⛹s. He was a leader of the American Revolution against English rule. He was also a scientist, inventor and writer.在美国历史上,本杰明·富兰克林以他的谚语而闻名。富兰克林生活在

⛹ 世纪。他是反对英国统治的美国独立战争的领袖。他还是一位科学家、发明家和作家。For many years, Franklin published a book called "Poor Richard's Almanac." He included many proverbs that he had heard or created. Some of them are still used today. Like this one:"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."富兰克林出版了《穷理查年鉴》好几年。他收录了许多他听到或创造的谚语。其中一些至今仍在使用。比如这个:“早睡早起使人健康、富有和聪明。”Franklin is also remembered for other proverbs like,"A penny saved is a penny earned." This means that money should not be wasted.富兰克林的其他谚语也被人们记住,比如“省一文就是赚一文”。这意味着钱不应该被浪费。Here are other examples of proverbs that Americans use. The first ones are about love. So me people say,"All is fair in love and war." They mean that anything you do in a relationship or in battle is acceptable.下面是美国人使用的其他谚语的例子。第一个是关于爱情的。有人说:“在爱情和战争中,一切都是公平的。”它的意思是你在恋爱或战斗中做的任何事都是可以接受的。Another proverb about love is, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." This means you love someone even more when he or she is far away. But other people say, "Out of sight, out of mind." You may not even think about that person when he or she is not with you. Which of these proverbs do you think is most true?另一句关于爱情的谚语是:“别离情更深。”这意味着当一个人远离你时,你会更爱他或她。但也有人说:“眼不见,心不烦。”当他或她不在你身边的时候,你甚至不会想到那个人。你认为哪句谚语最正确?Another proverb says "Love is blind." In other words, when you are in love with someone, you may refuse to see anything bad about that person.另一句谚语说:“爱是盲目的。”换句话说,当你爱上一个人的时候,你可能会拒绝看到那个人不好的一面。插一句,Love is blind. 让我想起沉睡花园的插曲,挺好听的哦!Here is another popular saying about love: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." Some people believe that a woman can win a man's love if she prepares his favorite foods.这是另一个关于爱情的流行说法:“要抓住男人的心,先抓住他的胃。”有些人认为,如果一个女人为一个男人准备他最喜欢的食物,她就能赢得他的爱。Some people are only interested in having a relationship with someone who is very goodlooking. You might tell them that "Beauty is only skin deep." Your girlfriend may be lovely to look at, but she may also have some bad qualities. Or the opposite may be true. Your boy friend is a wonderful person, but not good-looking.有些人只对长相好看的人感兴趣。你可以告诉他们“美貌是肤浅的。”你的女朋友可能看起来很可爱,但她也可能有一些不好的品质。或者反过来也可能是正确的。你的男朋友是个很好的人,但不是很帅。So what a person looks like is not really important.所以一个人长什么样并不重要。Another proverb is true in love and war or other situations: "Actions speak louder than words." It means that what you do is more important than what you say.另一句谚语在爱情、战争或其他情况下都适用:“行动胜于空谈。”这意味着你做什么比你说什么更重要。Sadly, we have no more time for this program. So we must say, "All good things must come to an end."很遗憾,我们没时间继续这个节目了。所以我们必须说:“天下没有不散的筵席。”And that brings us to the end of this Words and Their Stories.以上就是本期词汇掌故节目的全部内容。Until next time, I'm Anna Matteo.下期节目再见,我是Anna Matteo。总结:Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. 早睡早起使人健康、富有和聪明。A penny saved is a penny earned. 省一文就是赚一文。All is fair in love and war. 在爱情和战争中,一切都是公平的。Absence makes the heart grow fonder. 别离情更深。Out of sight, out of mind. 眼不见,心不烦。Love is blind. 爱是盲目的。The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. 要抓住男人的心,先抓住他的胃。Beauty is only skin deep. 美貌是肤浅的。Actions speak louder than words. 行动胜于空谈。All good things must come to an end. 天下没有不散的筵席。往期精彩内容VOA| 有什么糖果表达呢?别相信“鳄鱼的眼泪”噢!大量资料免费获取!呕心沥血的整合,请收藏!华盛顿邮报如何报道?飞机失事找到第二个黑匣子!......点个在看你最好看
